What was the purpose behind the establishment of Charnock Healthcare Institute?
Facing a shortage of quality healthcare professionals, Charnock Hospital initially sought to bring in personnel from other parts of the country like Kerala and the North East. However, cultural differences, overseas placements, poaching, and language barriers posed significant challenges. To address these issues, we established Charnock Healthcare Institute to fulfil our personnel needs.
Recognizing that other hospitals also face a similar shortage of skilled manpower, we expanded our strategy. Charnock Healthcare Institute now aims to meet the demands of the entire healthcare industry by providing high-quality professionals in Nursing, Paramedics, and Administration.

General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM)
The General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) program at Charnock Healthcare Institute spans a duration of 3 years, offering a residential, full-time mode of study with a total of 100 seats available.
Affiliated with INC and WBNC, the program follows a yearly examination pattern and is open to candidates who have completed their 10+2 education from any stream with a minimum of 40% marks. Selection for the program is based on the WBJEEB-ANM/GNM, and classes are conducted from Monday to Saturday. This comprehensive curriculum prepares students for a fulfilling career in nursing and midwifery, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
B.Sc. Nursing
The B.Sc. Nursing program at Charnock Healthcare Institute spans over 4 years, offering a residential, full-time mode of study with 100 available seats.
The program holds affiliations with INC, WBNC, and WBUHS, and starting from 2021, follows a yearly/semester examination pattern. Eligible candidates, with a 10+2 background in PCBE and a minimum of 45% marks, can seek admission through the WBJEEB-JENPAS-UG selection process. Classes are conducted from Monday to Saturday, providing a comprehensive educational experience that blends theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for a successful career in nursing.
M.Sc. Nursing
The M.Sc. Nursing program at Charnock Healthcare Institute spans a duration of 2 years, offering specializations in Medical Surgical (4 seats) and Child Health Nursing (4 seats).
The program is affiliated with INC, WBNC, and WBUHS, and can be pursued in both full-time non-residential and residential modes. Following a yearly examination pattern, the eligibility criteria require candidates to hold RNRM, B.Sc. (N) / B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. (N) with a minimum of 55% marks. Admission to the program is based on the WBJEEB-JEMScN selection process, and classes are conducted from Monday to Saturday, providing a comprehensive and specialized education in nursing.
Paramedics
Paramedics are qualified medical personnel who work alongside the Doctors, Nurses etc. in treating the patients. They can be typically employed in the ICU, OT, Emergency, Ambulances and Trauma units, various departments of hospital etc.
In modern days Paramedical Science has emerged as an important branch of medical science. Without paramedics the entire health industry is out of gear and almost non functional. Keeping this in mind Charnock Healthcare Institute has launched the first Paramedic College in West Bengal offering full time regular degree courses under the affiliation of WBUHS (which is the premier Govt. University offering MBBS, MD, MS, MCh degree). The curriculum is industry oriented and taught by eminent faculty of the medical fraternity. Hands-on practical training is done at parent and affiliate hospitals.
